Job Description

The Center for Biology and Society in the School of Life Sciences (SOLS) is searching for a part-time Accounting Specialist to perform a variety of accounting functions to support the goals and objectives of the Center. This position will be responsible for a wide range of general and complex accounting related tasks. The ideal candidate will have acute attention to detail, experience with ASU administrative and financial processes, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, and a welcoming demeanor.

Salary Range

$20.00-$23.00 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Purchase in the ASU financial management system – Workday
  • Prepares special and recurring reports containing specialized or sensitive information using the ASU financial management system – Workday
  • Processes requisitions, invoices, journal entries or other transaction documents
  • Reviews and monitors accounts for fund availability and transaction accuracy
  • Maintenance of orders, accounts, logs, and billing documents
  • Prepares a variety of accounting-related reports, summaries, and reconciliations.
  • Expense reimbursements for participants and external committee members
  • Maintaining correspondence and solves issues as they arise
  • Personnel payroll action requests
  • Provides support with ASU travel system
  • Printing, sorting, scanning, and photocopying

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Business Administration or related field AND one (1) year of related experience; OR,Three (3) years related accounting experience; OR,Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with the ASU financial management system – Workday
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience interpreting ASU’s policies and procedures
  • Experience in work that requires organization and detailed oriented with good time management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices and principles.
  • Experience in maintaining and reconciling accounting and financial records.
  • Evidence of effective communication.

Working Environment

  •  Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (5%).
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate  to perform essential functions.
  •  Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals;
  • This position receives regular review of objectives by department administrator.
