Job Description

The Accountant Senior for University Housing performs complex accounting duties including processing transactions and monitoring daily financial operations, creating complex reconciliations and ad hoc monthly financial statements. Responsibilities will pertain to specific assigned account areas within the department to ensure ongoing adherence with established policies and standards as designated by department leadership.

Essential Duties

  • Receives, reviews and processes a variety of business, financial and operational transactions such as check requests, internal/external purchase orders, reimbursements, service department billings, deposits, SunRISE orders and transfers.
  • Monitors and reviews financial documents for trends; interprets financial data; provides financial analysis, projections and recommendations.
  • Prepares and summarizes a variety of financial and operational reports such as revenue and expenditure projections, expenditure trends, cost analysis, and accounts receivables aging reports.
  • Monitors fiscal performance against budget and prepares variance analysis reports; may be required to present financial information to department leadership.
  • Supervision of 2 Professional Staff positions
  • Processes invoices related to Guest & Conference Housing Billing
  • Establishes Purchase Orders for Hotel partners
  • Issues Greek Leadership Village Chapter invoices and tracks the payments
  • Assists with the development/review of vendor contracts and agreements for the department in accordance with State, Arizona Board of Regents and University policies and procedures; manages vendor contract payment process.
  • Manages purchasing cards within assigned account areas, reconciles purchasing card transactions and maintains supporting documentation in accordance with University policies and procedures; assists with review of department purchasing cards monthly statements and supporting documentation.
  • Participates in internal and external audits as needed.
  • Performs reconciliations of various forms of revenue and designated account transactions.
  • Conducts staff and student training on internal policies and procedures related to expenditure request processes and purchasing card delegation processes.
  • Reviews and processes individual and group department travel in Concur
  • Process payments including cash handling and check deposits.
  • Prepares and summarizes a variety of financial and operations reports such as revenue and expenditure projections, expenditure trends, cost analysis, and accounts receivables aging reports.
  • Independently creates reports using spreadsheets, databases, web tools, and ad hoc report writing software.
  • Assists in the preparation of major operational and special budgets; prepares budget projections and analyzes data and/or trends for decision making.
  • Participates in internal and external audits as needed.
  • Performs reconciliations of various forms of revenue and designated account transactions.
  • Conducts staff and student training on internal policies and procedures related to expenditure request processes and purchasing card delegation processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Days and Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, to include extended hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience; OR, six (6) years professional accounting experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices and principles.
  • Experience in accounting (5 years)
  • Experience with managing accounts payables and/or accounts receivables
  • Experience developing, monitoring and analyzing budgets
  • Experience performing reconciliations
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing priorities with tight deadlines
  • Experience preparing detailed financial information for a variety of constituencies
  • Experience developing queries and Ad Hoc reporting.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel including the experience in utilizing pivot tables and look up functions
  • Experience in Workday, Peoplesoft, Concur and/or StarRez.
