Job Description:

The Student Health Care Center at The University of Florida within the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) is seeking an Accountant II. Responsible for ensuring appropriate internal controls in all financial processes and procedures. Performs account reconciliation and produce monthly and quarterly financial reports for all SHCC-related finances; Compile, analyze and keeps record of historical data.  The Accountant II will analyze revenue and expenditure trends, recommend appropriate budget levels and expenditure control measures. This position is responsible for compiling all reporting requests from General Accounting Reviews, analyzes and approves expenditures, and monitors fund balances.  The Accountant II provides continual account analysis to ensure accuracy of accounting methods and appropriate use of funds confirms compliance with all grant/contract requirements and University policies and procedures. This position will research and work with appropriate departments to resolve discrepancies in accounting data which includes internal auditing and analyzing fiscal data.  The Accountant II will serve as liaison with UF and UF Health financial offices and department personnel, and will perform other related financial accounting activities as needed.

 

Reporting and Reconciliation:

  • Responsible for compiling the monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports, for review and approval.
  • Reviews, analyzes and approves expenditures, and determines fund balances; ensures compliance with all grant/contract requirements and University policies and procedures.
  • Researches and works with appropriate departments to resolve discrepancies in accounting data which includes internal auditing and analyzing fiscal data.
  • This position works with both UF and FCPA General Ledgers.
  • Responsible for preparing the quarterly and yearly A/R and A/P reports for the Finance/Accounting Division-Auxiliary Operations at UF.
  • Responsible for the SHCC yearly inventory plan and reports for the Finance/Accounting Division at UF.
  • Analyzes and provides data for the published Annual Financial Report.
  • Gathers and prepares yearly Write-Off information to send to Treasury Management.
  • Responsible for preparing and finalizing the Overhead amounts yearly for the UF Budget Office.
  • Maintains trends, graphs, and historical data.

Budgeting and Projections:

  • Compiles and analyzes historical trends, anticipated revenue, and expense projections both annual budgeting and longitudinal forecasting
  • Enters Departmental Budgets (Salary, FTE, TBAs, Distributions, Expenses, Overhead) into both UF and UF Health budgeting systems for yearly spending.
  • Maintains a shadow system supporting all information entered.
  • Reviews and calculates projected Health Fee and prepares all financial data for Health Fee Committee presentations

 

Liaison to outside departments:

  • Works as a senior liaison with UF and UF Health financial offices and department personnel for all fiscal-related inquiries.

 

Processing / Reviewing:

  • Processes transfers when needed within the UF system.
  • Handles Dept. ID allocation and account issues.
  • Processes error corrections in PeopleSoft.
  • Reviews and approves Purchase Order request and P-card charges.

 

Other Duties:

  • Serves as a back up to other positions within the Finance Office.
  • All staff are cross trained in each position in case of vacation, or extended leave.
  • Areas to cover when needed: Cashier, Depositor, A/R, A/P
  • Other duties may be required based on the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Policies and Procedures are produced as needed throughout the year to adhere to general accounting practices.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Must interpret and adhere to Local, State and Federal policies related to financials or accounting practices
  • Aware of personnel, patient and financial data that must be kept confidential at all times to ensure adequate functioning of the Student Health Care Center and adhere to Local, State and Federal guidelines.

Expected Salary:

The salary range is between $45,000 to $55,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Employee is expected to work independently and receives direction from the supervisor on an as needed basis.
  • Expected to be proactive in work projects and improving department efficiencies
  • Thorough working knowledge of PeopleSoft modules. MS Office suite especially Excel
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, general ledger, revenue and expenses, balance sheet and trial balance.
  • Ability to balance and reconcile fiscal records and general ledger to the subsidiary ledger.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to create, compile fiscal and ad hoc reports.
  • Ability to work productively, independently, problem solve, and prioritize tasks in order of importance; operate a computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

Such designation must be made to the position at the time of recruitment. A time-limited position shall have the same rights as a position with a regular appointment modifier, except such position shall not have rights provided for layoff, recall, and notice of non-reappointment. However, this is not a temporary position.
