The Opportunity:

The Accountant II provides planning, management, and/or support for financial operations activities including accounting, internal controls and financial systems, budget services, internal and external auditing, procurement, and payroll.  Performs accounting functions such as analyzing, monitoring, reconciling, and reporting financial information. May include activities relating to developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing all benefits and payroll vendor payments in the Accounts Payable system on a bi-weekly and off-cycle basis.

  • Submits data transmission files to benefit vendors electronically on a biweekly basis to ensure that the money sent to the vendors reconciles.

  • Responsible for the reconciliation of Payroll’s clearing account on a monthly basis; requires fiscal analysis and knowledge of proper accounting procedures.

  • Processes and reconciles all Human Resources benefits and payroll related vouchers and cashier deposits.

  • Researches outstanding items and ensures that corrections are complete prior to the close of the fiscal month period.

  • Duties include analysis of all benefit and payroll data and preparation of necessary correcting entries for the General Ledger.

  • Assists and provides guidance to external departments concerning interpretation of reports, entries to the General Ledger, and processing data.

  • Maintains tracking system of benefits refunds requested by UCF from benefit vendors and is responsible for processing the off-cycle payroll to provide refunds to employees and/or departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education in accounting with a focus on benefits and/or payroll administration in a higher education setting.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Experience with Workday.

  • Ability to work on many projects simultaneously and be detail oriented.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and critical thinking.

  • Demonstrated experience in effective time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
