Your opportunity:

Accessibility Services provides academic accommodations and services for students with disabilities and promotes a fully integrated university experience by ensuring that students have the opportunity to access and participate in all areas of student life. In partnership with a variety of

Student Affairs and academic departments, Accessibility Services provides comprehensive programming throughout each student’s university career to foster greater resiliency and promote the development of knowledge and skills that are transferrable to their future goals.

Using a holistic approach, you will work with an ethno-culturally and academically diverse student population performing an assessment of students’ needs primarily related to learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and acquired brain injuries (ABI) with co-morbid conditions, ensure that appropriate documentation has been received, review and assess confidential medical/psychological documentation; assess, plan, implement, evaluate and adapt accommodations based on the student’s individual disability-related needs; assist the students

in self-monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations; make referrals to internal and external supports as appropriate.

In addition, you will facilitate the student’s knowledge about their disability, addressing the strengths and challenges the disability brings to their academic pursuits and daily life activities; determine if assistive technology would assist the student, referring when required; assess, recommend, and provide appropriate documentation to support the use of funding for disability-related expenses.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and recommending alternative approaches and possible accommodation solutions as part of the duty toaccommodate
  • Advising course instructors and staff on student accommodations issues
  • Reviewing and approving disability related educational expenses through the OSAP Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD)
  • Writing confidentialstudent accommodation summaries
  • Providing case management support to students requiring the coordination of multiple services
  • Determining the reasonability of an accommodation in relation to a student’s disability

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in counselling, psychology, education, social work or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years experience in a post-secondary setting with students whose primary accommodations and supports are required due to a learning disability, ADHD, acquired brain injury.
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with persons in emotional distress or conflict.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing clinical documentation, including psycho-educational testing reports and psychological evaluations is required.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring accommodation plans for persons with disabilities and possessing a thorough understanding of disability issues.
  • Computer fluency (e.g. Microsoft Word; Excel). Experience with Clockwork Scheduling System is an asset.
  • Critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent reading, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within an inter-disciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problem solving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the implications of disabilities as they relate to a student’s success at university and in a broader context.
  • Knowledgeable about general academic structure of a University and the specific requirements of academic courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize knowledge and display sound judgment, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

USW Pay Band 14 — $90,056. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $115,169. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
