Job Description

The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering seeks a motivated individual to join our advising team as an Academic Success Advising Coordinator to provide 1:1 as well as group academic advising, recruitment/retention, and academic success support functions to students through a range of in-person and virtual support strategies to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of an undergraduate degree program in Civil, Environmental & Sustainable Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management and Technology, or Environmental Engineering.

$42,000 – $55,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Provides academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success regularly, but no less than 50% of time.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with manager, chair, or director and university administrators to implement policies and practices in support of college, department, and university goals.
  • Coordinates a program, portion of a large program, or a group of activities and functions within a department or college directed to the retention and success of the student population.
  • Assists in development of academic advising policy.
  • Utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success including eAdvisor, DARS, Peoplesoft, ASU Dashboards, SalesForce, and MyReports.
  • Acts as college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success.
  • Acts as a college/department liaison to department, college, and university committees on issues related to academic success.
  • Responds to student questions and concerns; works with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction with program and successful progress to completion.
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.

  • Leads/supervises academic success staff in the provision of academic advising, recruitment/retention, and/or academic program functions for students to ensure needs of students are met for successful completion of program of study.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Advising Coordinator retention, graduation, and academic planning; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of management and supervisory principles.
  • Experience in higher education academic advising experience. (10 year)
  • Experience working with engineering students at the university level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, and The Polytechnic School policies and curricular requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and best practices in academic advising.
  • Experience in student outreach, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
  • Experience in designing presentation materials and giving presentations in a variety of group settings.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), MyReports, PeopleSoft, dashboards, and degree audit systems (DARS).
  • Knowledge of university curriculum software programs (BAMM, CurricUnet, Curriculum ChangeMaker).
  • Experience interacting with diverse populations.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
