Summary:

The College of Education and Community Innovation is the first academic college in the nation to unite the transformative power of education, social work, criminology, philanthropy, and legal studies with the community engagement of hospitality, health, nonprofit, and public management and policy. 

CECI has 8 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs with over 4000 students enrolled. Multiple undergraduate programs prepare teachers to become certified to teach specific grade levels.

The Academic Resources and Retention Specialist will offer one-on-one academic guidance, group advising, programming, coaching and support to CECI undergraduate and graduate students in need. In addition, the Academic Resources and Retention Specialist will prioritize tasks appropriately as the needs of the students and organization shift as determined by the Directors/Advisors for CECI Programs. This person must have the ability to synthesize information and differentiate instruction.

Job Responsibilities:

Advising & Administration – 60%

  • Assess students’ academic needs, assist them in setting goals, connect them to appropriate resources, and prove ongoing support as needed.
  • Provide targeted outreach to students who are identified as being at-risk.
  • Partner with professional academic advisors and faculty advisors to support students entering multiple teaching programs
  • Produce and distribute informational materials related to programs and services creating access through digital media and systems such as Blackboard.
  • Monitor student academic records and progress using student records, early alert systems and grade review process
  • Maintain electronic student files and student database.
  • Understand and be able to clearly communicate academic information, including possible programs of study, resources available to students, and be knowledgeable of academic policies and administrative practices.
  • Communicate with Academic Advising Team and Directors regarding concerns about individual students as necessary.
  • Keep up with upcoming academic dates and deadlines.
  • Assist with academic advising and course scheduling as needed.
  • Participate in training and/or continuing education opportunities as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings/team meetings regularly

Engagement, Events and Activities – 20%

  • Assist in planning and facilitating professional development programs throughout the year for students seeking graduate programs or teaching certification
  • Represent CECI programs at open houses and/or graduate program information sessions
  • Participates in Orientations, and other campus events to promote department services.
  • Helps facilitate workshops/trainings provided to students to assist them in their development as a university student.
  • Assist in the planning and hosting of programming, events, and opportunities for students to engage and connect with peers and faculty mentors.

Marketing & Communications – 20%

  • Create and maintain a semester event calendar for student programming and events through social media platforms, online calendars, and website.
  • Create content for social media representing student advising for the college.

 Requirements:

• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred.
• Must be student-oriented and have a background in student instruction, mentoring, tutoring, assessment, and conflict resolution.
• Must have experience working with adult-learners and at-risk student populations.
• Teaching or program/event planning background preferred
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Competent use and understanding of technology and data analysis skills. 

 Salary:  $46,000 – $48,000
