Academic Librarian (HEO 7)

  • Based in the University Library at the City West campus
  • Full-time, continuing position commencing January 2023
  • Commencement Salary: $92,941 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role 

Academic Librarians are responsible for
designing, planning and providing innovative client-centred services
to underpin the teaching, learning and research activities of the
university. They work with the academic and professional community to
identify and evaluate information resources, provide expert assistance
with information discovery and develop the collection to reflect the
University’s academic programs and research priorities.  Academic
Librarians contribute to strategic initiatives within the Library,
particularly in relation to researcher support, research education and
student engagement.

learning and research mission through provision of relevant
information resources and associated services.  The Library also
coordinates copyright for the University.  Access to Library resources
and services is both virtual, anywhere, anytime and any device and via
physical Libraries at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes. 

Operating in an environment of
increasing demand for digital information services the Library has a
rapidly growing electronic collection of books and journals with over
1.2 million eBooks and ~193,000 online journals as well as print
resources and archival collections. The Library has implemented an
innovative “Ask the Library” service to provide support to the
University’s staff and students wherever they are.

The Library is operating in an
environment of increasing availability of digital information and
demand and plays a significant role in training staff and students in
information skills.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with academics, the
    Teaching Innovation Unit, and the Student Engagement Unit on
    initiatives to support University teaching and learning priorities
  • Design, market and lead targeted
    services to support the research priorities of the University
  • Deliver training to researchers,
    academics and higher degree students
  • Actively represent the Library on
    appropriate committees and project groups at Academic Unit and
    University level
  • Contribute to the Library Unit’s
    plans by leading designated projects and supervising the work of
    team members to ensure project objectives and deadlines are met.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualifications in
    Information Management or equivalent skills and knowledge,
    including experience in an academic or research library
  • A sound understanding of
    developments in academic publishing, scholarly communication and
    digital literacy
  • The ability to assess and apply
    emerging technologies in a library environment both face to face
    and online
  • Demonstrated experience in designing
    learning resources for a variety of digital learning and web-based
    purposes including training
  • Demonstrated capacity to be
    innovative, and to lead the development, implementation and
    continuous improvement of services supporting the University and
    Library strategic priorities.
