Position Summary:

The Department of Upward Bound is seeking an Academic Coordinator Upward Bound – Davie, FL.

  • Academic Coordinator (AC) will commit 100% of their time and effort to the program over a twelve-month period.
  • The AC’s primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day academic aspects of the program.
  • The AC will assist with planning and coordinating Saturday Academic Sessions, visit students at 5 assigned target schools to provide academic support.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a plan for each student’s success primarily focusing on each year’s graduating class.
  • Maintains contact with high school personnel regularly concerning students’ educational and social status in school.
  • Provides professional guidance and advising to students regarding careers, post-secondary admission, Financial Aid, personal and educational issues. Provides documentation of contacts to the Director monthly.
  • Distributes and interprets financial aid information to participants and assures that their applications to post-secondary educational institutions are made.
  • Maintains records of information on participants, including SAT scores, projected financial aid and post-secondary plans.
  • Develops a student follow-up system, provides documentation of contacts, being particularly vigilant during the first six months following high school graduation and maintaining those records.
  • Responsible for supervising students and work-study tutors during academic after-school sessions.
  • Recruits, interviews, trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of mentors/ advisors during the summer program.
  • Coordinates all recreational activities and use of college’s facilities during the summer residential programs.
  • Assists in the planning of field trips, cultural events, and college visits during the academic year and during the summer residential component.
  • Carries out committee assignments.
  • Develops and executes annual strategic plans for student recruitment.
  • Coordinates efforts toward student recruitment.
  • Collects completed evaluation reports and prepares formative and summative evaluations of support services aspect of the program.
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings, training sessions and student/parent meetings.
  • Represents the college as a speaker, presenter or in similar capacities in high schools, service clubs, community events and other activities of a similar nature.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and team approach toward accomplishing program and institutional goals.
  • Designs and develops strategies and programming to achieve the program objectives.
  • Develops and submits a formal follow-up report of Upward Bound graduates to accompany the annual self-evaluation.
  • Collects and maintains data that is necessary to complete the Annual Performance Report (APR), including information related to the program’s system of tracking graduates.
  • Conducts home visits, and other local travel in order to provide additional tutoring and one on one assistance with other academic grade level tasks.
  • Occasionally travel to other offices or locations to attend meetings or to pick up or deliver materials and/or supplies to target area high schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
