ROLE of the POSITION

The Academic Coaching Coordinator works under the general direction of the Director for College Programs supporting college level programs housed at the UNLV Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach. This position oversees a cluster of part-time Academic Coaches/Support Specialists, who provide basic advising, coaching and follow-up to the participants of LSAMP, AANAPISI, AANAPISI – STEM, Student Support Services – Regular, and Student Support Services – STEM grants. Specifically, the coordinator is responsible for coordination of college-level services and development of innovative programming, supervision and training, retention-related projects and research, collaboration and assistance with ‘secondary to post baccalaureate’ pipeline, data management and accountability, needs and outcomes assessment, as well as grant-related research. Additionally, the coordinator’s responsibilities include academic advising and counseling, responding to participants’ personal concerns, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment to promote academic and personal success, assisting with career exploration, assisting with financial aid and admissions applications, etc. This position remains current in applicable AANAPISI, LSAMP, TRIO and GEAR UP trends, regulations, methods and philosophies. This position supports both academic and administrative functions within the Center. The incumbent of this position regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment when coordinating various aspects of the grant programs and advising The Center’s participants. This position is exempt from overtime. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 2 years of professional supervisory experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. Candidate must be able to pass a background check. Candidate must be able to drive and maintain a valid Nevada driver license. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship. 

Candidate must be able to meet deadlines and maintain regular communication with leadership; must have the ability to perform multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously, work in a self-directed environment, as well as plan and organize on a daily and long-term basis. Candidate must also have direct experience working in a professional setting collaborating with organization personnel to manage projects, resources, and initiatives in order to meet organizational objectives. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred. Direct experience with LSAMP, AANAPISI, TRIO, GEAR UP or similar grant-funded projects is preferred. Managerial experience is also preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to work with and counsel individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups that are academically-at-risk, low-income and ethnically diverse students. Direct experience working in a professional setting collaborating with organizations personnel to manage projects, resources and initiatives in order to meet organizational objectives is preferred. The ability to perform multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously, work in a self-directed environment, as well as plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis is critical. Good interpersonal communication skills are vital, since the ability to maintain effective relationships with students, administrators and the community has an impact on the success of this position. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills, effective time management skills and good computer skills. Experience with setting up and maintaining online communication with students is also preferred.
