Normal Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.

Additional Department Summary: This position is housed within the department of Education Abroad, a part of the Capstone International Center. This role will primarily advise prospective study abroad students on potential programs and opportunities, assist students with proper documentation, and inform students about policies and procedures. In addition to advising this role will assist with marketing and recruitment, programming and events, and developing and maintaining resources for students and families. This individual will also develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with other personnel, faculty, and advisors, as well as relationships with our partner institutions and affiliate providers.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some experience in a student services, higher education, international education, or education abroad office. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. Must have the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively (excellent oral and written communication skills), prioritize tasks, exercise good judgment, problem-solve, establish and foster good working relationships with diverse groups of people, and function independently. Effective time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Higher education work experience, specifically student advising experience. Experience working at the University of Alabama. Knowledge with Terra Dotta, and other database software packages. Previous experience working, living or traveling overseas.
