| Organizational Unit Overview | Clinical Finance and Business Support Services/Group Practice Administration is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversight of the group practice for ECU Physicians. The practice is comprised of approximately 360 faculty physicians, 52 contracted providers and employs a diverse clinical support staff of more than 1,200 individuals, of which approximately 350 employees are working within revenue cycle operations The practice provide approximately 550,000 outpatient, 155,000 emergency room and 126,000 inpatient services annually to nearly 160,000 patients. Clinical Finance and Business Support Services reports to the ECU Physicians (ECUP) Executive Director and ECUP Chief Financial Officer to support key fiscal and operational components of the clinical practice and revenue cycle operations. These include direct management responsibility for staffing and operations in the centralized functions of the Central Billing Office (CBO) and oversight for decentralized activities. Centralized functions include: Payor Contracting and Evaluation, Regulatory Compliance and Credentialing; Computer System and Procedure Training; Insurance and Patient Billing, Follow-up and Collections; Cash Management of Professional Fee Revenue; Business Intelligence Services such a Reporting and Analytics; Coordinated Patient Access Support; and Contact Center Decentralized functions include: Registration, Referral Management, Pre-Service Financial Preparation; Service Identification and Reconciliation; Coding and Charge Entry; and Project Management and Process Improvement. |
| Job Duties | The Core Services Unit [Unit] is responsible for several essential CBO business functions: Claim’s processing, A/R follow-up, collections. The Unit is responsible for timely claims submission and for receiving optimal and timely reimbursement from insurance companies and patients. ECU Physicians annually generates over $110 million in revenue from over $320 million in charges submitted on roughly 900,000 annual claims. The Unit ensures compliance with regulatory and payor requirements and maintains the highest level of data integrity and complete and high-quality claims related documentation. The Core Services Supervisor position is a key leadership position reporting to the Assistant Director of Core Operations & Project Management. The Supervisor directs the activities of the Unit along with one team lead who provide direct supervision to nineteen employees. The incumbent ensures that a robust and continuous improvement effort is in place which ensures the Unit’s responsiveness to rapidly changing regulatory and operational requirements. This requires the Supervisor not only to lead the Unit through operational transitions but to also develop comprehensive goals and objectives for the team that are aligned with the CFS Mission statement. In addition, this individual support or leads to multiple internal and group-wide initiatives and projects following sound project management practices. The Supervisor is responsible for meeting key industry standard performance goals such as days in A/R, clean claim submission, or denial rates. The Supervisor is inept in anticipating and resolving complex work situations related to staffing, regulatory, operational, or payor changes. The incumbent has extensive knowledge of government and commercial billing requirements and has expert Epic system knowledge applicable to their scope of business. The Supervisor represents CFS in a highly professional manner and can communicate verbally and in writing complex billing, reimbursement, and technical issues to external and internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, a variety of committees and workgroups, as well as payor groups and third-party vendors. The Supervisor also ensures Best Practice, Service Excellence, and productivity standards are in place and maintained.
