We are looking to appoint an exceptional media and communications professional to join the St George’s External Relations, Communications and Marketing (ERCM) team. The Press and Research Communications Manager will play a key role in promoting St George’s, University of London’s research activities through the media and the University’s own communication channels; working closely with the University’s research staff to understand their work and translating complex scientific terms into communications which will engage a wide range of audiences.

Supporting the aims of the University’s public engagement agenda, the postholder will also work closely with colleagues to inform, promote and report on a variety of events, including the University’s Inaugural Lecture series, Jenner day and Research Day.

Key attributes of the successful applicant include:

  • Successful track record in media relations and communications working in a press office, public relations or communications-related field 
  • Flair for writing engaging and accurate copy, translating complex concepts and scientific information into a range of outputs for the University’s key audiences 
  • Excellent communicator, with sound news judgement to proactively promote St George’s research and researchers to the media 
  • High level of prioritisation and organisation to manage a complex and rapidly changing mix of proactive and reactive media and communications projects  
  • Enthusiasm and personal initiative to solve problems and respond quickly to emerging media opportunities.
