Chemist II

Job Description:
  • Use validated methods to extract and prepare residue samples for analysis.
  • Prepare standard solutions and reagents required for analysis.
  • Analyze samples using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC) with various detection systems, primarily triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.
  • Perform and document activities in compliance with EPA Good Laboratory Practices and laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Evaluate analytical methods and modify as necessary to achieve acceptable method performance.
  • Optimize analytical instrument parameters to achieve acceptable, reliable performance.
  • Validate method used for sample analysis.
  • Review literature for changes/improvements in preparative/analytical procedures.
  • Operate computer-based automated data collection systems for data acquisition, processing, and quantitation.
  • Review data and assist with generation of reports.
  • Assist with photocopying and/or scanning of documents.
  • Conduct routine instrument cleaning, maintenance, and basic instrument troubleshooting.
  • General lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Participate in required training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Expected Salary:

$48,000 – $68,000; Commensurate with Experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in chemistry or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with sample preparation techniques and the use and maintenance of LC/MS/MS instrumentation.
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.
