The role
 

The 3D workshop at LCC is comprised of both wood and plastic workshops, a 3D printing and scanning area and a large laser cutting suite. It is a College Wide service, assisting students from any one of LCC’s diverse range of courses with the 3D workshop team supporting all manner of 3D making.

The candidate will be expected to support technical teaching and the day-to-day management of the above in the workshop with an emphasises on the Laser Cutting Department. This would include but is not limited to;

• Daily setup, running and maintenance of the workshops 3 Trotec laser cutters and 2 silhouette vinyl cutters.
• Being responsible for students learning and use of the laser and vinyl cutters.
• Developing the laser department, looking at creating self-directed learning opportunities for students and widening accessibility.
• Developing and delivering inductions for both students and staff and the creation of online and printed resources for learning and teaching.
• Managing the laser online resource booking systems as well as the 3D workshop website, email and social accounts, alongside the 3D workshop team.
• Managing materials and ensuring high health and safety standards are followed and maintained.
• Managing associated LEV with machinery and running weekly and termly maintenance throughout the 3D workshop.
• Supporting the other departments within the workshop, this to include working with students in the wider wood and plastics workshops and the 3D printing and scanning department.
• Contributing to the development of 3D making at LCC.
• Working with the wider LCC technical team to improve students experiences and develop making processes.

This role requires the candidate to work onsite due to the physical nature of the role.

Your profile
 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working within 3D making facilities within an educational or professional environment or with suitable transferrable skills. They will have a good understanding of best practice within a workshop environment, including the use of equipment and materials, maintenance of the area, health & safety, and administrative tasks. 

They should have excellent practical knowledge and hands on experience in:

• Setting up, running and maintaining of laser cutters and vinyl cutters
• File creation, fixing and set up for laser and vinyl cutting using Adobe Illustrator.

Experience in the following is also desirable:

• Setting up and running of 3D printing machinery
• Digital modelling and file fixing for 3D printing and fabrication.
• Plastic and woodworking fabrication and ability to see how all areas of the workshop can be used together to create better projects.

As well as technical skills related to the 3D workshop, we are looking for someone who has experience in developing online and in person teaching resources as well as managing online booking systems for machinery and services.
