Certified Radiologic Technologist

Conduct research videofluoroscopic swallowing exams using a Philips BV Endura C-Arm and TIMS DICOM interfaced for funded Aerodigestive Research Core lab studies in the laboratory and inpatient setting. Job duties include but are not limited to: prepare and set up fluoroscopy room, prepare bolus stimulus tray, mix barium consistencies in accordance with the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative definitions, and Flow Test. Position videofluoroscopy equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance. Use beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to research participant and employees. Position research participant, set up, and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of the swallowing mechanism. Process exposed radiographs using film processors or computer generated methods. Explain procedures to research participants to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation. Responsible for saving and coding procedures to the Aerodigestive Research Core lab server.
Perform analysis of videofluoroscopy exams. Utilize frame by frame analysis for videofluoroscopic and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing using validate techniques to include, but not limited to, ASPEKT (Analysis of Swallowing Physiology: Events, Kinematics and Timing), DIGEST (Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity), and Yale Phayngeal Residue Scale. Attend and participate in discrepancy meetings to review any discrerpant ratings between other raters in the lab. Enter final ratings into REDCap, a secure web application containing research data.

$25.00 to $26.34 per hour, negotiable based on skills and experience

Certification as a general radiographer in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes. Licensed in accordance with Chapter 468.304, Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years of relevant experience.
• Previous experience working on NIH funded swallowing-related clinical trials.
• Proficiency with operating Philips BV Edura C-Arm and TIMS Dicom system for videofluoroscopy.
• Highly motivated and self-directed individual, making progress with limited supervision.
• Detail oriented.
• Strong verbal communications skills. 
• Articulate and tactful communication skills; readiness to meet and work directly with participants.
• Capacity and motivation to learn new software, research methods, and work routines quickly; flexibility in responding to new research opportunities as they arise.
• Ability to share responsibilities and rewards with a team of coworkers, including off-campus participants and UF faculty, staff, and fellow students.
• Adept with Microsoft Office program, the internet, and electronic communications.
