The Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology is currently inviting applications for the following position:

3-year doctoral position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L1 , 75%)
on Giftedness and Neuroscience

We are seeking an excellent doctoral candidate who has strong passion to examine how to improve education for gifted primary school children by combining neuroscience and educational psychology. The successful candidate will work with Professors Jessika Golle, Michiko Sakaki, Kou Murayama, and Birgit Derntl in our project on giftedness and neuroscience. This is an exciting interdisciplinary project based on collaboration across the Hector Research Institute and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Tübingen. We aim to a) uncover the brain development of intellectually gifted children and b) propose a new enrichment program on neuroscience for primary school children. The successful candidate will lead the development and validation of the enrichment program while being involved in neuroimaging data collection in gifted primary school children as a collaborator. Applicants can come from any fields of neuroscience/psychology or related fields.

The position comes with a contract for 3 years. The expected start date is February 2023. 

The successful candidate is expected to work with our interdisciplinary team to develop an educational program on neuroscience for gifted primary school-aged children and examine its effectiveness. The successful candidate will be also likely to engage in neuroimaging data collection from gifted primary school children. There is the opportunity to work with children from the Hector Children’s Academy Program, a state-wide enrichment program for gifted primary school children in Baden-Württemberg, to advance our understanding of the developmental mechanisms behind exceptionally talented children.

Requirements
Graduates (and applicants about to graduate) with a master’s degree in psychology, education sciences, or a related field with excellent grades and a strong interest in research from interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged to apply. Experience and interest in giftedness research, in developing learning materials for primary school children and/or educational neuroscience, in conducting randomized controlled field trials in education, and/or in data collection with children is desirable. Proficiency in German language is also desirable.

The Hector Research Institute is a nationally and internationally leading research center in education sciences and psychology. Our interdisciplinary team works in a well-equipped building close to the historic old town of Tübingen, Germany. Our team will collaborate within the institute continuing these traditions and also supplement them with a diverse array of methodological approaches. 1  According to the general pay scale of German universities, the salary will be “E 13TV-L”. This corresponds to a monthly salary of at least EUR 3.141 (75% position, gross pay, before tax). After taxes as a single (i.e. not married or living with a life partner; no children), the monthly salary is at least EUR 2.017 (net salary after taxes and health insurance payments).
