The Mediserve Training Scholarship has been developed by Mediserve Nursing Agency in conjunction with Curtin University to support Indigenous Australian students who have chosen to study nursing at Curtin University.

The Mediserve Training Scholarship will provide the following support for the expected duration of the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) for up to a maximum of three and half years (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

  • Cost of student contribution fees (excluding SSAF). Fees will be paid directly to the student fee account in two instalments per year to be paid prior to the census date relevant to each enrolled semester.
  • A total value of up to $1,500 paid as a cash stipend of $250 each semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Payments occur post census date each semester. First payment will be made approximately mid-May. Subsequent semester payments will be made approximately mid-end April and September each year, depending on receipt of payment from Mediserve Nursing Agency

Scholarship Details

  • Bachelor of Science (Nursing)

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Mediserve Training Scholarship:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Financial hardship and low socio economic status background
  • Enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) in semester 1, 2023 at Curtin University
  • Not currently hold another industry funded scholarship
  • Current students must have a current course weighted average (CWA) of at least 60

Application process

Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program” application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarship’s website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted.

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date 

Step 7: Acceptance

·        Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

·        Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

·        The award of the scholarship is subject to receipt by Curtin of the scholarship funding from the Donor

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet ALL of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) 
  • Maintain a full-time study load of at least 100 credit points each semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 60 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester

Scholarship continuity is subject to meeting satisfactory academic progress as outlined above. Progress will be assessed at the end of each study period. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, a recipient with unsatisfactory progress or who breaches the scholarship conditions shall be ineligible to retain the scholarship. Exceptional circumstances must be forwarded to and shall be at the discretion of the Scholarships Office in consultation with a representative from Mediserve Nursing Agency.

Changes to Enrolment

If a recipient intends to do any of the following they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office ([email protected] ) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

  • Change from full-time enrolment
  • Leave of absence: Students must complete at least one semester of leave before applying for a leave of absence from their scholarship. If approved, the maximum period of leave is 12 months

Withdrawal or terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from studies will become ineligible for continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.
