Job description

Danish building practice is in the middle of green transition: Climate change, new materials, the desire for more sustainable construction, renewed focus on reduction of energy consumption and demand for high productivity and efficiency is challenging the construction industry. This calls for research and dissemination with respect to fire safety of modern construction and building practice.

To meet these needs, relevant research areas for our future associate professor in structural engineering and fire safety should be within some of the following subjects:

  • Performance requirements based on natural fire simulations
  • Modelling of material and structural behavior when exposed to fire
  • Modelling of fire load.
  • Fire safe use of timber, wood-based materials and other biogenic materials as load-bearing structure, cladding, or insulation
  • Design of fire safe refurbishment of existing buildings
  • Reducing the need for testing when assessing reaction to fire and fire-protection performance

The applicant must also be able to describe the thermal and mechanical actions for the structural design of buildings exposed to fire, including safety requirements and design procedures. Further qualifications within advanced structural analysis will be advantageous.

The Associate professor in Structural Engineering and Fire Safety will be responsible for Institute’s teaching in Fire engineering. Some teaching in other related topics and in other study programs at the University is also expected, including design of constructions with respect also to structural safety, durability and sustainability. A significant part of the teaching activities will take place at Aalborg Campus.

BUILD has a wide network both nationally and internationally, and research is often conducted in collaboration with companies, organizations and authorities.

A position at BUILD offers significant opportunities to influence the built environment, through government consultancy, SBi guidelines, business collaboration, teaching and research dissemination. You will become part of a dynamic research environment, where the focus is on knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration on technical and social science assignments.
