Job Description:

Histopathology: 
• Process cartilage, bone, and synovial tissue samples received from clinical collaborators for histopathologic labeling of joint innervation
• Process cartilage, bone, and synovial tissue samples received from rodent animal models for histopathologic labeling of joint innervation
• Perform confocal or light-sheet microscopy to create 3-dimensional maps of joint innervation
• Carry out research protocols including, but not limited to: histology and immunostaining, tissue clearing, viral tissue labeling, confocal and lightsheet microscopy, qPCR, ELISAs, and other biochemical assays
• Process and prepare AAVs for neural labeling, helping to comply with environmental health and safety regulations.

Animal Model Support:
• Assist in rodent surgeries and post-operative care
• Conduct behavioral analysis in rodent models
• Coordinate datasets with collaborating laboratories
• Dissect and preserve tissues for future histopathological assessment
• Design experiments and interpret results in consultation with the PI

Record Keeping and Lab Maintenance: 
• Assist with the cataloging and preservation of samples acquired from clinical collaborators
• Assist with the maintenance of datasets and depositing final datasets under the NIH data sharing guidelines.
• Assist with placing -omics data in the appropriate NIH repository
• Assist with the coordinating of datasets between collaborating laboratories, ensuring that data collected on the same subject in different laboratories is properly collated.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order to avoid down time in conducting experiments
• Ensure equipment certifications remain up-to-date
• Maintain reagent stocks

Other Duties:
• Other duties as assigned by the PI

Expected Salary:

 $50,000 – $58,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in biomedical sciences field, such as biochemistry, pathology, physiology, or biomedical engineering.  Other closely related degree fields will also be considered if the applicant has the skill sets that complement our research team.
