The School of Art + Art History in the College of the Arts seeks a Sculpture Teaching Lab Specialist to support School of Art + Art History faculty, curriculum, and students by helping manage equipment and instructional facilities for Sculpture, including a wood shop, metal shop, foundry, and digital manufacturing technologies. 

Responsibilities:

• Assure that the space, equipment, and materials for Sculpture courses, classrooms, labs, and studios are safe, well-functioning, and accessible.
• Maintain and organize the safe functioning of the wood and metal shops.
• Procure, maintain/repair, organize, and secure equipment, materials, and supplies in instructional and storage spaces for Sculpture.
• Research new equipment, materials, and best practices and work with faculty and/or the director’s office to determine needs and budget for equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Orient students and make sure that they check out, return, and use equipment properly, while complying with health and safety policies and procedures.
• Train and supervise students assigned to oversee metal and wood shops.
• Demonstrate materials and processes in classes, as needed, and in studio open hours, including helping students realize their ideas using wood and metal.

• A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience.
• Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

• MFA in Art
• Four years of appropriate fabrication experience using wood, metal, and digital manufacturing.
• Comprehensive understanding and experience with sculptural production using wood, metal, and digital manufacturing.
• Exhibition record and studio practice engaged with sculpture in the expanded field.
• Instructional experience in an interdisciplinary studio art setting and the ability to help students with varied experience solve sculptural problems with safe and innovative approaches.
• Strong organizational skills and a high level of self-motivation to keep up to date with changing technology.
• The successful candidate will be able to work well independently and as part of a team, have demonstrated people skills, and excellent written and verbal skills.

Location and Schedule:

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm with an hour lunch.
This position is expected to perform their duties on the UF main campus in Gainesville, Florida.
