1-year Limited Term Appointment as Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Program

Wilfrid Laurier University — The Anthropology Program invites applications for a one-year Limited Term Appointment at the Assistant Professor level commencing May 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. We seek to hire a candidate with expertise in one of the following three areas: (a) law & governance and/or social movements; (b) sex/gender and embodiment and/or medicine, healing & embodiment; (c) the anthropology of narrative and knowledge.

Anticipated Salary Range: $90K to $110K. Actual salary to be commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will teach over the Fall 2026/Winter 2027, including at least one of the following courses:
AN243 Law, Culture and Society
AN261 Anthropology of Sex/Gender and Embodiment
AN334 Folklore, Myth and Oral Narrative

Applicants must have a PhD – or be ABD – in Anthropology. The preferred candidate will have a strong research record as evidenced by publication in peer-reviewed sources, a commitment to ongoing ethnographic fieldwork, and a record of excellence in teaching. The teaching workload for this position is five one-term courses at the undergraduate level.

Geographical area is open.

The Anthropology Program focuses on the ethnography of the contemporary world, and on teaching undergraduate students the skills to pursue independent, fieldwork-based research projects.

Research statement (1-2 pages)
Teaching dossier or other teaching evidence including copies of course evaluations, selected course outlines and a brief reflection on teaching philosophy and experience. Maximum 30 pages.
A writing sample.
