| Job Description: | Responsible for workflow coordination of housekeeping/custodial operations, and laundry service management - Provide primary supervision and oversight for the Reitz Union Hotel Housekeeping by checking daily occupancy for current and upcoming events in order to plan and schedule cleaning tasks and assignments accordingly; coordination with the Union housekeeping shifts; coordinate with shift supervisors regarding staffing, tasks, and related needs
- Organize, assign, and manage workflow so routine, special cleaning tasks, and emergency responses are handled in a timely and efficient manner; ensure housekeeping needs are met in the event of a staff shortage in both the Reitz Union and Reitz Union Hotel.
- Supervise the JWRU laundry to ensure that clean linens are available in a timely manner; regularly inspect and inventory linens; advise supervisor of linen needs
- Maintain inventory of linen, cleaning supplies, and breakfast items; requisition materials and supplies from JWRU central stores as required; notify supervisor regarding low inventory of linens, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Responsible for management of the hotel breakfast buffet including ordering breakfast items, inventory of supplies, and staffing/scheduling
- Assist with coordination of regularly scheduled “deep-clean” of hotel rooms (as occupancy allows) including moving furniture to clean in unexposed areas and cleaning sliding glass doors and balcony areas
- Responsible for assisting with coordination and completion of special cleaning tasks in facility during academic calendar or holiday breaks
- Regular meetings with superintendent and supervisors to determine facility needs, staffing concerns and to identify necessary follow-up, training, and/or personnel issues.
- Responsible for performing housekeeping/custodial duties as needed
Responsible for staff workflow and supervision - Provide direct supervision for Housekeeping staff within the Reitz Union HotelServe as a member of the leadership team for Housekeeping area guiding performance in housekeeping/custodial tasks including cleaning occupied and vacant guest rooms; sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing and buffing of floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust and clean furniture and other surfaces; clean and sanitize bathrooms; replenish courtesy personal amenities and towels; clean windows; removal and disposal of trash; make beds; and replace light bulbs
- Assist with planning and revising of work shift schedules to ensure efficient utilization of work force; check daily event reports for current and upcoming events in order to plan and schedule cleaning tasks and assignments accordingly; ensure housekeeping/custodial needs are met in the event of a staff shortage
- Respond to personnel issues as needed; keep supervisor informed in a timely manner regarding issues; conduct counseling and disciplinary meetings or other follow-up with staff as directed; document issues, meetings, and actions
- Assist with employee hiring process and orientation for new employees
- Plan and implement appropriate in service training for staff including training programs on safety, cleaning methods and standards, products, equipment, applications, and excellent customer service;
- Assist with administrative functions related to employee time approval and reporting; track leave time used and comp time balances accrued by Housekeeping employees on an on-going basis; notify employees regularly as directed of their comp time balances
- Compile and review staff performance appraisals as directed
Responsible for quality assurance and building inspections - Respond appropriately to information and requests received via work orders, building reports, and from staff and other customers to determine the priority of tasks to be performed; provide follow up to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner
- Conduct daily inspections of building to ensure that highest levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance are achieved and maintained; document items requiring attention; follow-up to ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner throughout the JWRU facility and Reitz Union Hotel
- Investigate and respond appropriately to requests from building occupants and customers regarding building custodial needs
- Coordinate special cleaning of facility during breaks with the Event Services office and others as appropriate to meet appropriate schedules and minimize down time
- Assist in establishing and ensuring compliance with high quality standards for all work performed (work performed by internal staff as well as contracted vendors)
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA and ADA regulations at all times
Responsible for administrative and management support for the JWRU and Reitz Union Hotel as directed - Research new equipment and products to ensure that the most cost effective, environmentally friendly and efficient cleaning methods are utilized; acquire literature, inform and make recommendations to supervisor
- Coordinate with vendors as needed to ensure training of staff on cleaning methods and proper use of equipment or products; prepare training materials as needed
- Keep material safety data (MSDS) notebook current at all times; conduct regular reviews with staff on MSDS information
- Interpret university and department policies and procedures for staff as needed
Develop reports, perform or assist with special projects as directed, including room set-up and/or breakdown (including moving furniture) and other duties as assigned |
| Preferred Qualifications: | - Experience in all aspects of building cleaning, including (but not limited to) floor care, wall surfaces, windows, and general cleaning of offices, restrooms, and food areas
- Experience training and managing housekeeping employees
- Up-to-date cleaning methods, products, and materials including chemicals
- Handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
