Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Operations Associates (Student Asst) to join our energetic team and inspire Gators to Live in Motion! Operations Associates serve the department by providing exceptional customer service to the University of Florida Community, ensure the safety of all RecSports’ patrons and guests, and manage the day to day operations for two of RecSports’ facilities-Southwest Recreation Center & Student Recreation & Fitness Center.

Area Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise activity in programmed and non-programmed areas in indoor and outdoor facilities
  • Enforce policies and procedures throughout the recreation centers and field spaces
  • Develop a strong base-line of fitness and facility knowledge
  • Guide patrons in proper use of equipment and spot patrons based on educated judgment
  • Oversee equipment check-out/in and usage by participants
  • Maintain an excellent recreation environment by cleaning equipment and various areas of the facility
  • Track and maintain participation counts throughout the facility
  • Check equipment for damage and report broken equipment
  • Assist program participants and facility users regularly, on the phone and in person, with all aspects of the Recreational Sports Program. Make referrals to appropriate areas as necessary. Be knowledgeable of all Recreational Sports and University Programs.
  • Respond to all injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities:

  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures

Required Training Dates:

  • New hires will be required to watch a series of training videos prior to in-person sessions
  • New hires must be able to attend mandatory trainings on Tuesday, January 3rd; Wednesday, January 4th; and Thursday, January 5th. (Times TBD)
  • New hires must be able to start this position and work throughout the Spring 2023 semester

Expected Salary:

$11.25/hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must complete supplemental google form- https://forms.gle/xiggyGXweDVVTZ8q8
  • Must be able to work Spring 2023
  • Must be able to attend mandatory trainings on Tuesday, January 3rd; Wednesday, January 4th; and Thursday, January 5th.
  • Commit 9-12 hours/week
  • Availability during opening and closing shifts, Friday nights and/ or weekend shifts
  • Successful completion of Department training requirements once hired
  • Required to pick up a number of shifts throughout the semester at both the Southwest Recreation Center and Student Recreation & Fitness Center
  • Commit to work the entire semester but in extenuating circumstances, you must provide 2 week notice in order to leave employment in good standing
  • This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in a customer service role
  • Previous experience utilizing a point of sale or other computer management system
